what’s really incredible to me is that any woman, after watching Woody Allen’s films, would date or god-forbid marry him. isn’t it completely and utterly obvious the only attractions he experiences are the inappropriate, the outlandish, the grossly hurtful, the incestuous…

the worse the impropriety, the more he seems to be attracted to it and in his mind, all is dismissed with the phrase, the heart wants what it wants.

i should receive my VHS order of this 1998 documentary shortly:

i used to play the clarinet and am therefore geekily excited to see Woody, a highly accomplished amateur clarinetist, tour with his jazz band thru Europe in 1996.

but i also have to admit my morbid curiousity with the other high-profile piece to this film. Woody tours with his sister, Letty, and his then girlfriend/soon-to-be-wife, Soon-Yi Previn. Soon-Yi is the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow, with whom Allen had had a 12 year relationship until Mia found nude photos of Soon-Yi in Woody’s possession. when Soon-Yi and Woody began their courtship, Soon-Yi was 22 and Woody 56. this film is said to showcase some tender moments between them, as well as between Woody and his sister and a quick visit to Woody’s parents house where they quip they wish Woody would have married a nice Jewish girl.

i’m currently on a Netflix bender consisting almost completely of Woody Allen pictures, easy to do with this prolific director. with my Woody Allen immersion, i suppose it’s no surprise this is my first real post. whatever.

disclaimer edit: the first paragraph of this post was written for a different venue and i realize now it is a bit polarizing for a blog. i stand by it, but maybe not with so much fortitude. i am excited to see this documentary and hope Soon Yi and Woody are happy together.
